The heart of Gran Canaria is a mountainous one. One of the highest spot is Roque Nublo, a beautiful rocky outcrop.
Many valleys, barranco's, lead from the center to the ocean. A great valley is the Barranco de Fataga, leading south towards Playa del Ingles.
It is especially nice to visit this plae because of the charming village of Fataga right in the middle of the valley.
Near Agüimes, which you see in the North chapter, is Guyadeque, which is famous for it's cave dwellings.
But also here the surroundings mountains are very much worthwhile.
Not far from here are San Bartolomé and santa Lucia, two more fine Canary villages.
