Las Palmas is the largest city on Gran Canaria and the only one with a sort of big city feeling.
It's a nice city with some focal points. The oldest area is in the south, Vegueta. Here's the cathedral and many colonial houses.
Another busy area is the park near the busstation. This is Las Palmas main shopping district.
And there is Playa de las Canteras, the main beach and the first tourist area in the Canary Islands archipelago.
Although there are not too many tourists here anymore, Canteras remains a beautiful beach.
The north has many beatiful towns and villages. I visited some of them, suchas Telde, Agüimes and Agaete.
Next to the latter one is the fishermen village of Puerto de las Nieves.
The word nieve, which means snow, is derived from the white summit of Teide volcano, on the neighbouring island of Tenerife.
